Main tourist attractions in Fujairah

As Fujairah has developed as a tourist centre, there is no doubt that the city can offer to its visitors a great number of attractions that are worth seeing. Here we try to make a list with the most interesting among them. 

1.     Heritage Village

The Village presents the traditional way of life for residents of the Emirates. Traditional houses, kitchen utensils, farming tools and the Al Yazrah irrigation system, used for irrigating fields with a working ball are displayed. It contains the Fujairah fortress and other ancient buildings which were used by the Ruler’s family. The fortress has been renovated. The village was created to allow visitors to take a step back in time and see how residents of the past lived.

2.     Bull Butting

In Fujairah bull butting is a family event. Every Friday local families and tourists gather at an open field to watch the bulls’ battle it out. The day begins with 20 bulls and winners move on the next round. The prize for the winner is to have his value increased. Even though the bulls are tied up and handled by attendants, they sometimes take to charging spectators – especially those in red. Bull butting has become a major attraction in Fujairah.

3.     Fujairah Museum

The Fujairah Museum is located south of the Fort, opposite the Ruler’s Palace. Displays at the Fujairah Museum include artifacts found in archeological digs at Qidfa and Bithnah. Local and foreign archeologists have uncovered items dating back to early Bronze Age, over 4500 years ago. Exhibits at the Fujairah Museum include pieces made of bronze, steel, brass, silver and gold. The latest addition to the displays is Herbs and Folkloric Medicine.

These are only some of the most interesting attractions in Fujairah. To have enough time to see all of them, we can assure you that only a day will not be enough.
