The only Salvador Brazil beach guide you’ll need

Visiting a Salvador Brazil beach – or several beaches more probably – is certain to be an enjoyable part of your visit to Salvador. The Salvador coast is beautiful. Sun, sea, sand, surf – and perhaps a beer from one of the many “barracas” or beach bars – what more could you wish for?

A well known Salvador Brazil beach – one of the main central Salvador beaches – is Porto de Barra. This was originally the site of the first settlement of European newcomers to Bahia. It has great sand, like most of the beaches in Salvador, and also great swimming. Because this particular Bahia beach is set inside the bay, the water is much safer than some of the other Bahia beaches. The Porto de Barra beach can get very busy and crowded, especially at the weekends. Keep your belongings with you! And if at all possible leave your valuables back at your hotel, in the safe! It is not unknown for things to go missing on this beach!

Farol de Barra, while it also has sand, is a much rockier beach. “Farol” means lighthouse, and this Salvador Brazil beach is known for its lighthouse as well as being popular with surfers. Surf trips and holidays congregate here, but it’s also a family beach and the rock pools make great exploring grounds for the kids. Be sure to supervise them carefully though.

Further up the Bahian coastline is another lighthouse, on Itapoen beach. In the water off this Bahia beach, reefs and rocks protect the water nearest the shore from strong currents, so as long as you stay close to the shore it is OK to swim. But further out into the water are some of the strongest currents, and even the tourist surf camps tend to avoid these waters. The people you see surfing here are likely to be locals who know the waters well and have listened to the Salvador Brazil surf report news!

A much safer choice in the array of Salvador beaches is nearby Plakaford. Here the calm waters and soft sandy beach are welcoming for families and children.

South of the city of Salvador, the Salvador Brazil beach array includes some gorgeous island Bahia beaches. Island beaches include Tinhare and Boipeba. Their lovely palm tree lined beaches are again good for swimming and general family beach days, as in spite of being on islands, the beaches are protected by the underwater rock structure or by the orientation of the islands relative to the mainland.

With such an array of Salvador Brazil beaches, there is sure to be something for every visitor! But going there you have to think about your accommodation. Talking about Salvador it is not an easy task. There is a wide range of hotels in Salvador located near the beach zones. To guarantee your reservation for the chosen hotel in Salvador, especially if it is during the high season, it is better to make an online reservation in advance. You have to be sure that you will receive a prompt reply and the quality of the service in Salvador hotels is excellent!
